Weather out the winter with these fun St. Louis events

Ever since Groundhog’s Day when that little rascal Punxsutawney Phil sentenced us all to six more weeks of winter, we’ve been finding the chill bit harder to bear. (But even though we may wish the globe felt a little warmer right now, we’re dedicated to being an eco-friendly hotel that doesn’t contribute to global warming!) Fortunately, in a city like St. Louis there’s no need to hibernate until spring! Relieve your cabin fever and forget the winter blues at these fun February and March events.

Soulard Mardi Gras 2018

First on the list is a St. Louis favorite, the annual Soulard Mardi Gras celebration. The St. Louis festivities are some of the largest in the country outside of New Orleans. Attend the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Ball on Friday, February 9, then catch the Bud Light Grand Parade on Saturday, February 10. On Fat Tuesday, you can celebrate again and watch the St. Louis Blues hit the ice at the “Fat Bluesday” in the climate-controlled Bud Light Party Center. The parade and Blues watch party are free, so leave your wallet at home and let the good times roll!

Valentine’s Day

You won’t notice the winter chill when Valentine’s Day fills you with warm and fuzzy feelings! You don’t even need a significant other to enjoy this sweet holiday in St. Louis. Take a free tour of the Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate Company factory to surround yourself with the sight, smell and taste of delicious locally-made chocolate. Or, if you’re looking for a wild way to surprise your Valentine, treat them to a three-course candlelit dinner at the St. Louis Zoo, complete with love advice from the animal kingdom presented by the Zoo’s own Dr. Love. But the most romantic option of all? A night under the moon at the Moonrise!

10th Annual St. Louis Centennial Beer Festival

The perfect cure to cabin fever for fans of great beer. This week of events celebrates the rich beer history of the Centennial Malt House and the St. Louis region. Running from Monday, February 19 through Saturday, February 24, this festival features fun tasting events like “Yoga Buzz”, an hour-long yoga class followed by complimentary beer sampling. Check out their full schedule to pick the event that will take your mind off this un-beer-able season.

Missouri Botanical Garden Orchid Show

Escape the cold and enter into a tropical oasis at the Botanical Garden’s Orchid Show from February 3 until March 25. This once-a-year opportunity allows you to experience a rotating display of hundreds of orchid species from the Garden’s living collection. Admission is $5 in addition to regular Garden admission price. Even though your own garden’s spring flowers might be on a six week delay, you can enjoy these fragrant, exotic blooms all month long. And check out Orchid Nights, an exclusive lighted orchid viewing with live music and libations, on February 8 and 22, and March 8 and 22.

St. Patricks Day Parades

Catch two parades in one day this St. Patrick’s day! Start with the Dogtown St. Patrick’s Day parade presented by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on March 17 on Tamm Avenue in Dogtown and concludes at noon. Perfect timing, since this year’s annual St. Louis St. Patrick’s Day Parade will march through downtown at 1 p.m. The parade is regularly recognized as one of the best in the country, with over 120 units including floats, bands and balloons! Get your best green garb ready for this celebration of Irish heritage. Rain or shine, the parade will begin at 20th and Market streets and progress through downtown to its conclusion at Broadway and Clark streets.

Concerts at The Pageant and Delmar Hall

They say music can be the ultimate escape, so escape the cold for a few hours at a killer concert. Check out The Pageant and Delmar Hall’s calendar of upcoming shows. Catch artists like They Might Be Giants, Walk The Moon and Matt and Kim during February and March. The best part? The Moonrise is just steps away from both venues, so you can land at our boutique hotel afterwards for a restful night under the moon.

With all this easily accessible entertainment in town, there’s plenty to keep you distracted until spring. If none of these events relieve your seasonal melancholy, don’t despair! The Moonrise is always here to put a smile on your face with our stellar service. Try booking a weekend getaway with your four-legged best friend at our pet-friendly hotel! A little R-and-R with your furry pal is sure to set your tail wagging. And if you’re looking to host an upcoming event of your own, the Moonrise is the perfect private or corporate event venue!
