Super Pink Moon Shines Bright this April

On April 26th, 2021, a Super Moon known as the Pink Moon will come blowing into the spring night sky. So, why is this moon named the Pink Moon? Also, what does it mean to be a Super Pink Moon? Does it look Pink in the night sky? Let’s answer these questions together.

What is a Super Moon?

A Super Moon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth, also known as its perigee. Because of this, the full moon looks super big! Super Moons are not a rare event but are always a beautiful sight in the night sky.

Why is it called a Pink Moon?

The Super Pink Moon is the full moon that occurs in April. April is when spring flowers begin to bloom. Specifically, on the eastern coast of North America, a moss called creeping phlox displays beautiful pink flowers in April. The moon doesn’t look pink, but many of the blooming flowers do, giving this moon its name.
