The Best End of Summer Activities In St. Louis

School supplies are back in store displays, the nights are getting a bit cooler and the slightest hint of pumpkin spice can almost be detected in the breeze. All sure signs that summer is quickly coming to an end. Even though it may seem that this summer slipped away far too fast, there’s still plenty of ways to enjoy what’s left of the season! As visitors to our boutique hotel will tell you, our mission is to help people relax and have a good time. That’s why we put together a quick list of upcoming events and activities in St. Louis, so you can have a blast before the temperatures drop!

The 100th Annual PGA Championship: Aug 9 – 12

Our fair city is fortunate enough to be hosting the PGA’s centennial championship tournament! If you’re a golf enthusiast, or just really appreciate crisp khaki pants and polite clapping, you definitely won’t want to miss this event. The tournament will be held at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis from August 9 – August 12. Tickets may be a little hard to get this late in the game, but if you’re able to score some you could end up enjoying a once in a lifetime experience! (If you can’t you’re always welcome to watch it with a drink in your hand on our rooftop bar. Not a bad alternative, if you ask us!)

St. Louis World’s Fare Heritage Festival: Aug 17 – 19

You’ve probably heard of the St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904. While you may have missed that party by a little over a century, you can still enjoy the St. Louis World’s Fare this August. The event is free to attend, will feature local musicians, performers, artists, and food trucks and is conveniently located at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park – just a hop, skip and a jump away from The Moonrise! Come out to celebrate all the amazing food, diversity, music and culture our city has to offer while enjoying a summer day in one of the biggest and most beautiful urban parks in the nation.

Big Muddy Blues Festival: Aug 31 – Sept 2

Looking for the perfect Labor Day weekend activity? We’ve got one for you! The Big Muddy Blues Festival is the regions largest blues music fest, drawing in over 30,000 visitors from around the nation. Jam out to blues genres like soul, R&B, rockabilly, gospel and jazz on the cobblestones of Laclede’s Landing. With the Big Muddy Mississippi River as the backdrop and some of the best blues bands in the country, you’ll be feeling anything but blue.

St. Louis Art Fair: Sept 7 – 9

We talk all the time about how much we love art. It’s what inspires our unique event spaces and funky hotel decor, after all. So we’re astronomically excited for this year’s St. Louis Art Fair! Artists from all over will be exhibiting their original work in Clayton, just a few short miles from the Moonrise. With three stages for entertainment, crafts for kids and culinary delights from St. Louis chefs, you’ll have so much fun you might just have an art attack!

LouFest: Sept 8 – 9

LouFest 2018 is coming back to Forest Park in early September! Over 30 bands will be performing on four different stages, including Robert Plant, Modest Mouse, T-Pain and Kacey Musgraves. One or two-day passes can be purchased, giving you access to all the live music, festival food and fun your heart desires.

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race: Sept 14 – 15

This event is a St. Louis favorite, and for good reason. It’s the oldest AND most attended free hot air balloon event anywhere in the world! Also conveniently located right in Forest Park, the event kicks off on Friday with the “Balloon Glow”, where dozens of hot air balloons light up the night and end with a fireworks show. The balloon race will take place on Saturday, beginning with a skydiving performance at 3 p.m. There’s truly nothing like watching these beautiful, unique balloons breeze across the summer sky. As the most pet-friendly hotel in St. Louis, we’d be remiss not to mention that the Humane Society of Missouri is hosting their annual Glow in the Park Balloon Glow Dinner fundraiser on Friday evening, too. Snag a ticket to enjoy a fabulous dinner and cocktails beneath the fireworks while supporting our four-legged friends!

See? With so much to do here in the Lou, there’s no need to despair that August is already upon us. So get out there and take full advantage of the warm weather we have left at these excellent activities in St. Louis. When you’re adding these events to your calendar, be sure to book a room at the Moonrise before they’re all gone!
