Pumpkins are being placed out on porches and there’s a 78% spike in ghost sightings. You know what that means – Halloween is on its way again! At this pet-friendly hotel in St. Louis, we love any reason to celebrate the spooky season, especially when it involves our favorite four-legged friends like the annual Delmar Loop Howl-o-Ween Pet Parade!
If you’ve attended the parade in the past two years, you know that it’s paws-itively a delight. After all, what’s not to love about a parade full of costumed pups, cats, reptiles and possibly even a pig or two? The planning for this year’s event is already well underway and it’s sure to be a paw-ty you won’t want to miss. The parade is scheduled for Sunday, October 28 on the Delmar Loop and, like previous years, will benefit the Gateway Pet Guardians.
Sup-purr-ting a Good Cause
We love any event that not only involves animals in the fun but also benefits their well-being. A donation of $5 at registration goes directly to Gateway Pet Guardians, a non-profit animal shelter in St. Louis that works to rescue and feed stray animals and eliminate homelessness for dogs and cats. So while your pet gets to strut their stuff, another animal gets a chance at food, shelter and a loving forever family. Pretty paw-some deal, right?
Parade Your Pets, Win Prizes!
Check-in for the parade starts at noon at Craft Alliance in the Loop. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and marches down to us here at the Moonrise Hotel (6177 Delmar). But everything is more fun when you throw some friendly competition into the mix, which is why this event is more than just a parade. You can also enter your pet (and yourself) in the annual costume contest! Prizes for the costume contest will be awarded up on our lovely rooftop bar patio, where you can rest your barking dogs and enjoy a few post-parade refreshments during the judging.
This year’s fur-rific contest judges are Elvis (Steve Davis) and Mak from 105.7 the Point, and Rene Knott of KSDK! They will be picking winners in the categories of scariest, funniest, most original, pet/owner look-a-like and group costume. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of all categories, but the winner of the Funniest Costume Category will be awarded two tickets to see David Cross at the Pageant on November 4! Additional prizes and activities will be announced soon, so keep an eye on the parade’s Facebook event page.
