Every day is Earth Day for the Moonrise Hotel. As one of the region’s leading eco-friendly hotels, we’re quite keen on being green.
But this year’s Earth Day is particularly special because Eclipse Restaurant recently was recognized for its sustainability efforts by two local organizations.
The Green Dining Alliance, a program of St. Louis Earth Day, welcomed Eclipse as its newest five-star restaurant, while the Riverfront Times ranked Eclipse as one of the 10 Greenest Restaurants in St. Louis.
GDA highlighted Eclipse’s local food sourcing practices, saying, “Their food sourcing reads like a Best-Of list of Saint Louis favorites: they source their mushrooms for their soups and sandwiches from Ozark Forest Mushrooms, some cheeses from Fox River, sausages from G&W, bread from Companion, Fitz’s root beer, Kaldi’s Coffee and ice cream from Serendipity.”
Both GDA and the RFT couldn’t get enough of the Moonrise’s 100-plus solar panels, with the RFT writing, “A rooftop solar panel array in view of Eclipse’s iconic moon harvests enough solar energy from that other celestial body in the sky to power both rooftop bars and the top two floors of the Moonrise Hotel.”
And those are just two of our numerous sustainability efforts around the hotel!
The Moonrise offers guests the opportunity to charge their electric vehicles overnight for free. We also employ a property-wide recycling program, even limiting our bottled water usage and utilizing a glass crusher to save space in our recycling bins. Eclipse also composts its waste and donates leftovers to Operation Food Search.
Outside of the hotel, we host, sponsor and participate in a number of green programs throughout St. Louis. After all, it takes everyone in the community to keep the planet healthy!
